WOODBURY — Jennifer Hunt, the Connecticut History Day regional coordinator for the Torrington District, will give an informational talk on the Connecticut History Day program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, at the Woodbury Public Library, 269 Main St. South. The event will be followed by three workshops that focus on history day projects. The Connecticut History Day contest is open to all students in grades 6 through 12. Students can create entries outside of school, following structured prompts on the CHD website.
Students from the five Connecticut districts compete for the top four projects in nine categories: Papers, Individual and Group Exhibit/Documentary/Website and Performance, and compete for a chance to move on to the statewide contest on Saturday, May 4, at Central Connecticut State University. The top three at this event qualify for the National History Day event in June at the University of Maryland. The 2024 History Day theme is “Turning Points in History.”
Ms. Hunt’s will follow her introductory talk with three workshops designed for interested students, parents and teachers and will review the adventure of this well-established contest on Saturday, December 30, January 13 and February 10. Students will learn how to follow the CHD process and learn about crafting historical arguments and get individual assistance.
As an Enrichment/Gifted and Talented teacher for 20-plus years, Ms. Hunt found the challenge level of History Day suited most students. It was personal and offered an out-of-school experience. The program is free and open to all area interested students and families. Those seeking additional information or to register may visit www.woodburylibrary.org or call 203-263-3502.
